A good advertising idea isn’t judged by a single commercial, but by its ability to produce ten of them. That’s exactly what we aimed for with “Sell Your Car”: a short, replicable format capable of endlessly reworking the same joke without ever repeating it.

A Promise, Then Reality

Both movies follow the same formula. They start by extolling the car, and end with the one detail that ruins everything.

In the first one, a mother has just pulled off the impossible: fitting an entire living room into the trunk of a compact car. It’s a short-lived victory, though—her two children are waiting outside, and there’s no room left for them. In the second, a driver lists everything his SUV can handle—deserts, rivers, mountains—before stumbling upon the real obstacle in his life: a parking spot in the city.

It always comes down to the same thing. Your car isn’t bad—it’s just not yours. Service then becomes a given rather than a selling point.

Why “Sell Your Car” Uses a Modular Format

That is the true strength of this approach. The structure is so clear-cut that it can accommodate an infinite number of situations: a trunk that’s too small, a space that’s too narrow, a missing seat. Each new film reuses the same framework and changes only the setting.

For an advertiser, this is a game-changer. Instead of funding a one-off video whose lifespan is limited to the duration of the ad space purchase, you’re implementing a format that can be updated campaign after campaign, with immediate recognition by the viewer.

Filming: Two Worlds, Two Logistic Challenges

A parking lot and children

The first film is being shot in the parking lot of a furniture store, featuring two children, one of whom is a baby. There are two additional challenges: an open location that we don’t have complete control over, and a shooting schedule that must accommodate very young actors.

This type of set is prepared in advance so that filming can proceed quickly on location. The less we restrict the set and the children, the better the takes turn out.

A cobblestone street and a parking maneuver

The second scene takes place in the city, with the classic challenges of filming with a moving car: a moving car, a steady shot, and traffic and passersby to manage. The parking sequence is the comedic heart of the film, so it needs to be shot long enough for the audience to feel the effort, without ever becoming boring.

A story told without sound

Perhaps that’s the most interesting part. The entire story is driven by text superimposed on the image, not by dialogue. This choice has two very practical consequences: the film works without sound—making it suitable for a news feed where auto-play is muted—and it can be localized simply by changing the subtitle track.

A single production can thus serve multiple markets without the need for re-recording or dubbing.

The Final Play: Ending with a Play

Both videos end the same way: a logo, a brief promise, and a call-to-action button. A free online estimate for one, and an introduction to the services for the other.

This variation in the button is not insignificant. The same film can serve the purpose of acquisition or the purpose of raising awareness, depending on how it is used, without shooting a single frame.

What This Project Says About the Way We Work

In this type of campaign, the value lies not in a spectacular concept but in the robustness of the format. It’s about understanding how it works, making it reproducible, and producing it quickly enough so that the advertiser can adapt it for different applications.

The brand sets the vision; we take care of everything else. That’s what we do for every advertising and corporate video project. Check out our other projects.
